CAR Women's Rugby Seven's Tournament
Posted on Thursday 21 June 2007 - 09:23:45 by SiteAdmin
Ten teams participated in this year's tournament. Two teams from South Africa (South Africa and Tukkies) and two teams from Uganda (Uganda A and Uganda Select) participated. The other teams were Tunisia, Kenya, Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
After a bit of drama, the Women's rugby team from Tukkies finally secured a spot in this year's tournament. At first the team were unsure of their participation and it seemed as if they would not be able to go. Only on Thursday the 14th, the team received confirmation that they would be able to get to Uganda to participate. At this late stage a number of arrangements still had to be finalised. Some of the members still had to go for the necessary injections to be able to travel to Uganda, the teams clothing for the tournament had to be finalised, the visas for the team still had to be organised and the air-line tickets still had to be arranged and paid for. In the end the flights were changed and the out team only arrived at their hotel at 01:00AM on the 16th of June and not at 16:00 on the 15th as originally planned (a total delay of nine hours). Despite all the problems surrounding the departure of the team and the uncertainty regarding their participation, the team still performed admirably in these difficult circumstances.
